OpenNode OS migration to softraid (live)

If in need to migrate OpenNode OS from single disk installation (no hardware raid) to linux software raid setup (RAID1) - please use this recipe. Conversion can be done online without much interrupting server operations besides a bit reduced disk IO.

OpenNode OS CD install

  • Download and burn OpenNode OS ISO installer image
  • Boot server from OpenNode OS install CD
  • Follow installer on-screen instructions
  • Choose automatic partitioning (if server has hardware RAID or RAID is not needed). Automated partitioning creates all needed partitions and LVM volumes on servers first harddisk or RAID disk - if server has several harddisks or RAID disks and there is a need to spread initial partitions over these then manual partitioning is needed (or migrating LVM volumes later manually).
  • Choose automatic partitioning with softraid setup (if server has no hardware raid and softraid setup is desired)
  • Follow installer on-screen instructions to complete the installation and reboot

KVM VM management with virt-manager GUI

This howto is about using standard virt-manager GUI tool for KVM VM management. In its current state virt-manager is not capable of fully managing OpenVZ linux containers - so it's mainly a alternative GUI tool for doing KVM VM management with OpenNode OS - and not supporting all features that OpenNode OS may have. However we try to make virt-manager user experience as smooth as we can by pre-configuring libvirt for OpenNode related policies as much as possible.

Converting from CentOS to OpenNode OS

There can be situations when using OpenNode ISO installer or doing networked PXE installs is not possible (for example in case of pre-installed dedicated server offerings) - therefor we have created an helper script in order to assist converting existing CentOS installations into OpenNode compatible hosts.
